About Me
I am a freshman undergraduate at the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University. I am currently undecided, but my intended major is Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE). I am also thinking about a possible minor in Economics and fulfilling the Energy and Environment Certificate. I am originally from New York City, but I have been living in London, England, for the past 14 years, where I attended The American School in London.
Name Pronunciation
My name, "Evan Reilly," sounds like "EH-vin RYE-lee." I used to tell people that my last name was "O'Reilly." Pretty simple, really...
Current Courses
For the Fall 2012 semester I am currently enrolled in 5 courses:
- EGR 103: Computational Methods in Engineering
- EGR 90: Intro to Engineering
- ENVIRON 330: Energy and Environment
- ECON 201: Intermediate Microeconomics
- MATH 212: Multivariable Calculus
Interest and Activities
- Sports (Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Ping-Pong, Lacrosse)
- Lead News & Features Editor for high school student newspaper
- PADI certified scuba diver
- NYS Safe Boating Operator
- Avid reader and up-to-date with current events (IHT, CNN, BCC, GQ, Esquire, Vanity Fair, The Onion)

MATLAB Demonstrations
My favorite MATLAB demo this week was the graphics display of a penny that incorporated official data measurements of the mold used to mint a US penny. In addition to the ability to draw a simple contour plot, the user can also produce a pseudocolor plot with the Laplacian lighting model that produces an image that looks like a photograph of a penny.
